But because of how cartoony it is, it’s never meant to be disturbing but rather fun and inventive and it definitely succeeds on that level.
The film (just like the cartoons of that style and era) is actually pretty violent. Evolving from single-celled yellow organisms at the dawn of time, Minions live to serve, but find themselves working. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters.
Characters stretch, zip by, and do things that no normal human being could ever do- but that’s the fun of it. The story of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Minions begins at the dawn of time. It’s bright, beautiful and it harkens back to the Warner Brothers style of cartoons during the 1950’s. One of the best things about this franchise is the animation style of it. The humor in this spinoff is the same as the other films, but unfortunately, the plot isn’t particularly compelling and every character besides the minions is pretty forgettable. On paper, it sounds like a great idea, but in reality- it gets pretty tiresome and at times obnoxious.
Audiences around the world fell in love with Minions in their first two outings and now they’ve made an entire film centered on them. The film follows the Minions- Stuart, Bob and Kevin as they embark on a perilous journey to find a new super-villain master. Minions is the latest animated film from Illumination Entertainment studios and is based around the popular Minion characters from the smash hits Despicable Me & Despicable Me 2.
